Golf gave me the drive I needed to be successful and showed me how to work hard and be persistent. I owe my life to golf. It's changed who I am and where I'm going.
Golf is a game of skill and strategy. It's a universal game played all over the world that brings together many different people and cultures. It's also a game that can be played from the time you're just a young lad, up until a grown adult. I fell in love with the game of golf in my early 20s.
Before I found golf, I couldn't stay committed to anything in life. I didn't work hard and I was out of shape. I was at a point in my life that it was hard for me to socialize with others. The stress was too much for me to handle and I found myself getting lazier and lazier.
I tried to get into golf in my early 20s. It felt like my life was crumbling around me and golf was honestly a tough start. There are so many skills you have to learn before becoming a decent golfer. I basically had to learn the difference between a driver and a putter. I had to practice my swing and my putting.
How I really got into golf
It took awhile but once I got the hang of the game I realized I could conquer anything in life. It took me time but my driving had come together and I could now consistently hit my drives between 200-250 yards after mastering my swing. Rarely did I shank a drive anymore.
How I realized I Became a Golfer
I knew I became a golfer when I entered a local tournament at the local Country Club. So many of the members had been golfing their whole lives and I had barely been golfing for 2 years. I ended up placing second and I realized this was my sport. This was where I belonged.
It helped me solve a lot of problems outside of my life also. Seeing how the hard work helped me to conquer my goals of golfing, helped me to apply that same strategy to the real world. I graduated college and got my first job. I was able to earn promotions because I saw the results of hard work on the course.
I was also able to socialize more and made many friends from all over. Bonding over golf helped my social skills and I was really able to get out and make the most out of life.
Golfing also provided me with an escape. Normally if I had a bad day, I would internalize all of the stress and anger. However, with golf I was able to really release all the stress. I could concentrate on my goals on the course before coming back with a clear head and focusing on my real world tasks.
I was also able to stay in shape. It kept me active and gave me something to look forward to.
Golf saved my life. It showed me that hard work pays off and gave me a real sense of belonging. Without golf, I really think that I wouldn't have finished college or started working in the professional world. The outlet that golf provided really gave me motivation and gave me a sense of belonging.
