It's been a while since my last 18 holes. I can't wait to get back out there and knock a few shots around with friends! What about you?

If you’re a golf enthusiast, you know you’ve found your sport.

The challenges of the game, the beautiful scenery and the thrill of the competition are things that can’t be replicated by any other game.

But why is golf so special to begin with?

See here for five reasons why golf really is one-of-a-kind...

1. It's a sport for people of all ages and abilities

With over 30 million golfers in America, the popularity of the game continues to grow each year.

Furthermore, with plenty of action around both professional and amateur levels, there’s something for everyone to get involved with. Golf is a sport for people of all ages and abilities; it’s also one that requires no previous experience or training.

Golf is truly a sport for people of all ages and abilities.

It is one of the few sports where you can compete at any age. With proper instruction and practice, golfers of any age and ability level can improve.

2. It's a great way to stay active and get some fresh air

The game of golf is one of the greatest and most enjoyable ways to get outside and spend time with friends and family.

It’s also a great way to get exercise and enjoy some much-needed relaxation time. You can enjoy golf all year long, whether it’s in a nice warm climate or snowing outside. In fact, winter golf is becoming more and more popular with many companies offering indoor golf facilities that have climate control for year-round play.

If you’re looking for a new hobby, golf is tough to beat.

It’s a great way to spend some time with your friends and family while also getting some fresh air and exercise. Plus, it’s a sport that can be played at any age — even when you’re in your golden years.

3. It has a very low barrier to entry and doesn't require a lot of heavy equipment

Even if you have never touched a golf club and have no idea how to play, you can pick up a club and start swinging it at the ball and still have fun. Golf has a very low barrier to entry and doesn't require a lot of heavy equipment in order to play.

All you need is a few clubs, a bucket of balls, and a driving range to find out how much fun you can have.

A good golf course will have a pro shop where you can pick out clubs and balls, or you can just rent them when you get there.

Golf is also a low-impact sport, which makes it a good choice if you're not in the best shape.

4. You can bring a drink to the course, unlike many other sports!

The golf course is fun.

If you like being outdoors, hitting a ball and competing against yourself and/or your friends, you’ll enjoy a round of golf at a local course.

You don’t need to be good at golf to have fun.

That said, it’s not like every other sport out there, so it does feel different. As a beginner, there are plenty of things that will surprise you about golf.

Golf is one of the few sports where it is perfectly acceptable (sometimes/somewhere) to bring a drink onto the playing surface. In fact, some golfers will feel naked without their beverage. A cold beer is an ideal companion for a relaxing round of golf for some golfers

(Alcohol is not allowed on all courses. Make sure you play by the local rules.)

I’m not a big fan of drinking and playing sports at the same time. But some golfers are.

You should also keep the safety of yourself and other players foremost at all times. Golf can be a dangerous sport if hit by a ball.

5. It encourages friendly competition, but also allows you to play alone if you want to

Golf is one of the most accessible sports out there, and it’s also one of the most flexible.

It’s a sport that can be played alone or in a team, depending on what you want to get out of it. You can even play on your own if you prefer — no one’s going to tell you otherwise.

It’s no secret that golf is a solitary game.

It’s a sport that allows you to enjoy nature and solitude on the course if you so choose, but it also has lots of competition. The beauty of golf is its versatility. You can play it as a lone ranger or as part of a team, as a competitive game or as a leisurely activity.

I’ve always been a competitive person, but I also absolutely love spending time alone. For me, golf is the perfect sport: it’s competitive, but you can play alone if you want to, and it brings out the best in people on the links.

Now It’s Your Turn

A lot of people think golf is a snobby sport.

But the truth is, it’s one of the most accessible sports around. Regardless of your income or age, golf is something that everyone can enjoy.

You get a good workout and have fun at the same time. And while you’re enjoying yourself, you’re helping to relax the people around you with your friendly conversation and laughter.

If you’ve never golfed before or played on a real course you may think golf is just another sport.

You may even be inclined to dismiss it as a game for the rich. It’s probably only when you’ve seen the genuine delight on the faces of those who have played the game that you’ll realize that there’s something special about golf.

Now, tell us why you think golf is so special…
